The Civic Engagement Action Coalition’s (CEAC) mission is to build an unprecedented coalition on campus of multiple identity, cause oriented, and interest groups to increase student involvement and awareness in the civic process. Building upon the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s reputation as a politically driven campus, CEAC seeks to not only promote civic engagement, but furthermore unite campus resources and efforts to create a culture of voter participation at Carolina and set an example for institutions across the state of North Carolina for how to mobilize and develop a voter-conscious campus.
To that end, CEAC has constructed a coalition of 50+ student organizations, national voter nonprofits, and university faculty and administrators. CEAC has used this coalition to mobilize hundreds of voters on campus, registering 700 voters in its first semester of operation. CEAC has also been instrumental in spearheading several initiatives to greatly increase student participation including but not limited the UNC Voter Shuttles, which brought students to their polling place from their dorms during early voting, debate watch parties, class visit registration drives, speaker series, absentee ballot filling-out parties, and voter registration workshops for Carolina Housing RA’s.
