The Student Policy Collaborative was established in the Spring of 2021 to create a formal, institutional knowledge base on campus for students seeking to influence and impact policy-making at the University and state level. Through focused, research-based engagement, the Collaborative provides a space for students to dive into the issues that impact them in their communities, and to mobilize data and best practices, and the connections to make sure that these proposals make it into the hands of University administrators and state agencies who can implement them.

The Collaborative’s flagship initiative, the Policy Challenge, supports students as they develop legislative proposals for presentation to members of the North Carolina General Assembly. Members provide feedback on these proposals and guide students as they refine them, with the ultimate goal of having them sponsored and introduced for debate on the floor of the House and Senate.
